What type of Fraternity is Psi Phi Nu Fraternity, Inc.?
Psi Phi Nu Fraternity, Inc. is a non-traditional greek Fraternity that is not under the Panhellenic nor National-Panhellenic umbrella. We are a mission-driven organization whose main focus is to provide service and support to our communities. We are about empowering men and helping them reach their full potential. We believe in knowledge, wisdom, leadership, service, and brotherhood, as we strive to instill these values in all of our members.
Why should I join Psi Phi Nu?
The title “Extraordinary Gentlemen” is really a badge of honor. It is something that can only be worn by men dedicated to improving themselves for the sole purpose of making those around them Great. This is why brotherhood is so important at Psi Phi Nu Fraternity, Inc. There’s an old saying Steel Sharpens Steel, and We Are Only As Strong As Our Weakest Link. Psi Phi Nu Fraternity, Inc pushes and encourages our members to share knowledge and help build each other up so that we can, in turn, help build strong and solid communities.

Through this brotherhood, you will have the opportunity to lend your talents to a bigger cause. Each member is encouraged to contribute to the overall success of Psi Phi Nu Fraternity, Inc. Also, there will be various opportunities to make your voice heard, not to mention numerous personal and professional connections. This brotherhood will be your biggest ally to push you to be your best and your greatest supporter to help you on your journey to success.
Every member is encouraged to further their educational ambitions. Academic achievements & scholarships are ways to compel our members to be their better selves. Every member is required to attend leadership development courses. We aspire to help all members reach their full potential through these courses.
We understand that higher education comes in many forms. Therefore, we encourage our members to join in the intellectual atmosphere that we strive to foster throughout the organization. Take advantage of each other’s knowledge that you may become empowered in every aspect of your life. Last but not least, we are a Brotherhood built on friendships that will last a lifetime.
Who can join?
Men must be 19 years of age or older at the time of the application.
However, men may not be a member of a NPHC or NPC sorority (please contact us to verify your eligibility).
Must meet one of the following educational requirements (traditional, non-traditional higher education, or life-long learner).
Full or part-time student college/university
PROOF of at least 24 completed credit hours from an accredited school with no less than a 2.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale. (Copy of Degree or Transcripts required)
Trade school
Must have graduated with PROOF of your certification or license and no less than 3 years of work history in that field. (Employment verification required)
Life-long Learning
At least 5 years of continuous VERIFIABLE work history at your CURRENT job. (Employment verification required)
What if I pay my processing fee and do not get an invitation to join?
If on your 1st try you are not extended an invitation for membership, you still have the option to reapply the following year WITHOUT paying an additional processing fee. However, if you are still not eligible after the 2nd try, all attempts to become a member will result in a $25 processing fee. Also, if you self-terminate your application, you will be required to pay the $25 processing fee again.
Will every applicant become an Extraordinary Gentleman?
Every man who meets the qualification is welcome to apply for membership. Although it will be our honor to have all the men who apply be a part of Psi Phi Nu Fraternity, Inc., this is impossible. We are very protective over our Pride, and not everyone who submits their interest form will be invited to become an Extraordinary Gentleman. Every potential member undergoes strict vetting during the membership intake process. Through the vetting process, we ensure that membership is only extended to those who qualify and who align with the culture of Psi Phi Nu Fraternity, Inc.
Nevertheless, we believe in being transparent. Therefore you have the right to request the reason why you were not extended an invitation to join PPN. If, for some reason, you are not invited into the fold, you may appeal the decision. However, all requests for appeals must be submitted in writing to be granted.
What are some reasons why someone may not receive an invitation to join PPN?
The most common reasons for not receiving an invite may include but are not limited to 1) failure to meet all qualifications, 2) falsifying information on the interest form, 3) failure to prove information on the interest form, 4) inability to conduct one’s self properly during the interview process, 5) outrageous expulsion from another fraternity, 6) history of belligerent behavior, etc.
What is the cost of membership?
As with most organizations with membership, there is a cost to participate. PPN, have the following fees:
Initial Year Financial Responsibility $345
1. non-refundable $25 registration processing fee
2. $20 background check fee
3. $200 national membership fee
3. $100 crossover fee
Yearly National Anniversary Financial Responsibility $200
Yearly Chapter Anniversary Financial Responsibility $100
How will my $345 initial fees be used?
Registration processing fee
$25 must be paid before the registration processing can begin. The $25 covers the credential vetting process.
Background fee
$20, paid directly to background servicing company (fees might be higher in some states).
Crossover fee
$100, which must be paid with the membership fee. The $100 covers membership: welcome kit, and crossover ceremony.
Membership fee
$250 will cover the operational cost (website, social media advertisement, educational tools, workshops, recruitment assistance, travel as needed, etc.), social costs (meetings, conventions, events, apparel for social events, charities, etc.), and loss and prevention fees (insurance to cover claims of injury, property damage, or personal injury, etc.)
The membership fee may be broken up into 3 payments no longer than 90 days.
(Please note that membership dues must be paid in
full to participate in the new member orientation classes and funds are non-refundable.)
How does the New Membership Process work?
The New Membership Process consists of several steps.
1st Step ~ Complete Interest Form
2nd Step ~ Registration (credential vetting process)
3rd Step ~ Formal Invitation, Acceptance, & Background Check
4th Step ~ New Member Orientation (proprietary learning, meetings, rehearsal, community services, and workshop)
5th Step ~ Crossover Ceremony
Is being a part of Psi Phi Nu time-consuming?
The new membership process of joining Psi Phi Nu Fraternity, Inc. will require some commitment of time as well as discipline. Over the course of 4 weeks, each probationary recruit will be required to learn a significant amount of Psi Phi Nu Fraternity, Inc. proprietary information. They must also attend meetings, take part in several workshops, and participate in community service activities and rehearsals. After being inducted as a Brother, each member is still required to complete 52 hours of volunteer services per year. In addition, they must complete at least 1 continuing education course either offered through the fraternity educational department or provide proof of educational attendance and attend no less than 5 of the 12 mandatory meetings.
Is there a predetermined number of men who will receive a formal invitation for membership?
At this time, there is not a predetermined number of men that will be invited to join PPN. However, please be advised that there might come a time when this may change, so we suggest you continue to check back for updates.
What are the policies on hazing and privacy?
Psi Phi Nu values its members and their safety. We do not tolerate hazing in any form. Furthermore, all members’ information shall remain private at all times. Therefore, it is strongly advised that each potential member familiarize themselves with both the hazing and privacy policies. Also, during the new member process, each member will be required to attend an anti-hazing workshop.
What if I am not sure if joining is right for me?
As the saying goes, “nothing beats a failure but a try.” So we employ everyone who meets the qualifications to apply. Please know that each member always has the option to resign from Psi Phi Nu Fraternity, Inc. at their discretion. It is our goal to make PPN an exciting and fulfilling fraternity. However, we understand that Psi Phi Nu is not for everyone, and for that reason, we wish everyone who decides to depart success in their future endeavors.
